James Dylan Burkett ATV Crash Redford Township Death and Obituary: Tragic Loss
The Redford Township community is reeling from the heartbreaking death of 15-year-old James Dylan Burkett, who tragically passed away in an ATV accident on Sunday, March 8, 2026, just two days after his birthday. Dylan was struck while stopped on 6 Mile Road at Kinloch Street and was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving his family and friends devastated by the sudden loss.
Dylan, a vibrant teenager with a passion for fishing, ATV riding, and spending time with his girlfriend, was described by loved ones as a spirited and kind-hearted young man who brought light to every room he entered. His father, James Burkett, recalled a final conversation with Dylan before he left for his ride, urging him to wear a helmet and stay safe. “I told him, ‘Son, the only reason I tell you this is because I love you and don’t want you to get hurt,'” his father said, a painful reminder of the love and concern that guided his words.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. Authorities have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors, though distracted driving has not been entirely excluded. Tragically, Dylan was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, despite his father’s request, which has only deepened the family’s grief.
Dylan’s legacy is one of love, joy, and kindness. He was a young man who took pride in helping care for his grandfather, enjoyed the beauty of nature, and cherished his close-knit circle of friends and family. His passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
In an effort to help the Burkett family with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been set up: Help Dylan’s Family Give Him a Proper Farewell.
As the Redford Township community mourns Dylan’s untimely death, they reflect on the happiness he brought to their lives. Dylan will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his deep love for his family and friends, and the lasting impression he left on his community.
So very sorry to hear this story. My condolences to the family.
